In this month’s employee spotlight, we highlight Darrin Bean. Darrin graduated from The Ohio State University and has been with Columbus Speech & Hearing for 22 years! Darrin is head of accounting and facilities. Darrin makes sure everything is in working order, and he balances the books!
When he isn’t making sure the CSH ship is running tight, Darrin volunteers his time with the Epiphany Ministry of Ohio. They share God’s love with incarcerated juveniles and young adults in Ohio’s prisons and juvenile correction facilities. In addition, Darrin is a trivia & music enthusiast who organizes regular meetups to play trivia and sing karaoke.
“The best part of my workday is seeing the kids that Columbus Speech & Hearing serves. Though I work behind the scenes at CSH, I take great joy knowing what we do here can make a difference in helping remove barriers to allow kids to succeed.”
To say Darrin has a big heart would be an understatement. Darrin shares that the lack of knowledge and assistance from his childhood brought him to work in environments that specialize in services for children in need. Before coming to CSH, Darrin worked at The Buckeye Ranch and St. Vincent’s Children’s Center.
Darrin’s favorite CSH memory is when former employee Stacy Gall, who led one of the therapeutic preschool classes, would bring her class on a short field trip to his office and have him join the kids in their classroom activities. “I know the Center does excellent work with adults too (in Speech, Audiology, and ASL/SSP), but for me, it has always been and will always be about the kids.”
