When wearing a hearing aid for the first time, it can be difficult to tell if it works optimally for your hearing loss and listening needs.
Real-Ear Verification measures the amplified levels of the hearing aid while placed in the ear canal. Due to differences in hearing aid fitting strategies, earmold or coupling acoustics, and ear canal anatomy, the actual level of sound reaching your ear can be quite different from what is set in the hearing aid program. Real-Ear Verification is the only objective measure of hearing aid performance on a patient’s ear. Real-Ear Verification is considered the “gold standard” of hearing aid care; however, only 20% of hearing aid fitters complete real-ear measures on their patients.
At Columbus Speech & Hearing, we complete these measures on every hearing aid patient. The sound of a hearing aid can vary greatly depending on the product fit, the earpiece’s acoustics, and the ear canal’s anatomy. Real-ear measurements can provide us with accurate data on the best fit of the hearing aids with all of those variations taken into consideration.
Do you have hearing aids that were fit at an outside provider and are not happy with them? Do you think you should be hearing better? Call for an appointment. We can determine if your hearing aids are fit appropriately for you, your hearing loss, and your listening needs. Real Ear Verification is offered in all three of our convenient Columbus area locations.
